God is a just God. To be just means "acting or being in conformity with what is morally upright or good." With that being said, God is the definer of morality (flowing from his unchanging nature) and because He is just, He can not go against the moral standard that he put in place. Scripture shows numerous times that God loves and enforces justice (Romans 12:19, Isaiah 1:17, Isaiah 61:8, Psalm 33:5, etc.) We also see in scripture that God judges sin. Sin by definition is anything that goes against the nature of God. One of the main reasons why people turn away from the faith is because they have a malnourished spiritual foundation. People lack patience and when they first come to Christ, they’re on fire and they expect for every single gift and blessing that God has for them to just fall right in that instant. The moment God doesn’t do that for them, they move on to something else going on a journey for something to fulfill them. They go out into the world and fall into the practices of the dealings of demons that will give them that instant satisfaction that they long for. They lack patience and understanding. I wrote a post awhile back about why just believing in God just isn’t enough (link) and that post just wasn’t long enough. That post doesn’t even begin to crack the surface of what the bible has to say about this topic. I can literally go on and on but I’ll try my best to keep this part short. In my first post, I went through and explained why only believing in God just isn’t enough. Belief in Jesus is the first step, but it isn’t the final step when it comes to this walk with the Lord. In this post, I want to focus on two verses, Luke 9:23-24 (ESV). Luke 9:23 says, “And he said to all, “if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”” Jesus carried the cross that he would later die on. The cross isn’t only a symbol of hope, but it is also a symbol of death. As believers, in order for us to truly carry our cross, we must deny ourselves and die to our flesh DAILY. |
